We are located in the School of Medicine at the University of New Mexico, a research- intensive university. This creates an atmosphere of intellectual stimulation and discovery in the field of health care. The faculty within the OT program are nationally and internationally recognized for their research as well as their leadership in practice and education. But we’re not just about academic credentials. We have a strong commitment to an education that provides students with current knowledge in the field, and also actively builds their professional reasoning and problem solving skills, so that they will enter the profession ready to deal with the complex lifestyle and health problems that occupational therapists address in their everyday work. We do this by making problem- based learning a key part of the curriculum, from the very first semester in the program. We also make additional enrichment learning experiences available, such as special international fieldwork programs, interprofessional education programs, and elective courses that involve provision of services to local communities.
