As the only medical school and Ob/Gyn residency program in a. I went to college in MN before returning to UW- Madison for medical school. I fell in love with UNM at my interview and convinced my husband that Albuquerque would be a great place for our soon to be family of four. I grew up on the water so living in the desert has been a big change for us, but we love the easy access to hiking and skiing, not to mention the much milder winters. When not in the hospital, I enjoy cooking, swimming, and traveling with my husband and son. We love traveling anywhere there is an ocean and back to visit my husband's family in Germany where he is from originally. I have a strong interest in global health and working with undeserved populations, which is part of what drew me to New Mexico (along with the beautiful outdoors, friendly and down- to- earth people, and unbeatable weather). In my free time, I enjoy painting, hiking, Latin dance, travel, and new and interesting foods and people. I like cooking and enjoy spending my free time outside with my dog. Albuquerque is so spectacularly dog friendly! I am excited to be delving into my residency training and want to be a general obstetrician/gynecologist after graduation.
A love for the mountains and outdoor activities led me to Bozeman, Montana for my undergraduate studies where—between hiking, skiing and trying new hobbies like fly fishing and snowshoeing—I earned degrees in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and Spanish Language and Literature. During medical school at the University of Washington, I discovered my passion for women’s health and advocating for women’s rights. I was drawn to New Mexico for the natural beauty of the area and the warmth of the people- both the patient population and the faculty. When I am not at the hospital, I can be found running, hiking, skiing, tending to my ever- wilting plants or cooking. My husband and I are excited to become involved in the communities of New Mexico and explore the many unique cultural and outdoor possibilities offered by the Land of Enchantment!
Specifically, I am fascinated in how our external environment affects many aspects of women's health - from healthy development of pregnancy to risk factors for cancer. New Mexico provides a great opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds and to think about how their unique environments affect their patterns of disease. I love spending time outdoors, cooking, and playing music. My wife is currently studying Chinese Medicine, and we hope to work together over the long term towards a more holistic idea of healthcare Guire and I grew up in Albuquerque, NM.
